My Story

In early 2020, only weeks preceding the pandemic, I survived a catastrophic fall from a bicycle deep within New Zealand bush. Left paralysed from the chest down, I faced not only a Covid lockdown, but also a bizarre, life-threatening spinal cord complication lasting over six months. Isolated in hospitals and spinal units in Auckland, Salisbury and St George's, London, it was an unimaginably brutal year. Throughout it all, my family, friends, healthcare providers, and spinal cord injury (SCI) charities offered unfathomable support. I cannot thank them all enough!

Back Up Trust

Every two hours, someone in the UK sustains a spinal cord injury. Back Up recognises how devastating this can be, but they also believe it shouldn't stop anyone from living a whole and adventurous life. They provide exceptional mentoring for those newly injured, offer multi-sport activity courses (including abseiling!), wheelchair skills training, and opportunities to connect online to share experiences and learn practical life skills — from travel tips to navigating daily challenges.

In gratitude for the support I've received, I’ve become a Back Up mentor myself and have recently begun training new mentors, helping others rebuild their confidence and independence.

London to Paris (L2P) cycle ride

In September, I completed the Back Up London to Paris ride, which started on Friday 26th and finished on Sunday 28th September 2025. Over those three days, I cycled 450 km (averaging 100 miles a day). I’ve managed a 100 mile ride to Tintern Abbey in a single day twice, training hard for this epic journey.

Please consider sponsoring me to support this incredible charity and help more people with spinal cord injuries rediscover what’s possible.
